5 interior trends that can add a touch of luxury to even small apartments

If you want your small apartment to look luxurious, try incorporating these fresh interior trends to make your home look both cosy and stylish.

When it comes to city apartments, size can seem like a constraint. But there are ways you can do up your small space and yet make your house look tasteful and stylish. Priyanka Gupta, Founder of Prodigy Designs, told Moneycontrol about five interior trends that can help add a luxurious touch to your house.

1. Opt for a multi-layered look instead of a standout wall

Depending on a single, large, eye-catching wall is passé. Instead, luxury now focused on creating a visual flow throughout the area. “Using different colours, materials, and textures in a natural and balanced way can quickly make small apartments feel more stylish and well-planned,” she said. For this, earthy shades offer comfort and richness without being visibly bright.

2. Use vertical space smartly while decorating

Instead of focusing only on decorating tables and other horizontal surfaces, direct attention to vertical surfaces. “Floor-to-ceiling drapes, a wall of mirrors and sophisticated lighting, along with clean and uncluttered wall decor, can help to make even the smallest space seem larger and more spacious. Investing in a couple of distinctive pieces can add interest and style without taking up too much space, e.g., an artisan rug, a decorative lamp or an unusual piece of furniture,” she suggested.

3. Swap conventional fittings and fixtures for richer, metallic finishes

Making slight changes like swapping out fittings can also help a great deal. According to Priyanka, a brushed gold or antique gold can warm up a room almost instantly, whereas chrome can sometimes appear very bland or outdated. It is these small details, such as cabinet knobs, tap fittings and light fittings that can alter a space quite dramatically, making it feel a lot warmer.

4. Use layered lighting for a softer ambience

Lighting can make a home feel luxurious. So experimenting with different types of lighting in various places can help. “Lighting under the cabinets, gentle lamps, hanging lights, and soft lights in the corners create a cosy, welcoming shine that enhances the atmosphere and feel of the rooms,” she added.

5. Choose simple, single-colour kitchen storage

Today’s luxury kitchens are moving towards a simpler, smoother look. “Using one cabinet colour that goes all the way to the ceiling gives a bigger, cleaner appearance compared to having two different colours for the cabinets,” she suggested. Combining storage for ovens and appliances helps keep a clean look, which makes the kitchen look tidier, larger, and much more stylish.
