5 style lessons for Gen Z girls and boys

Their fashion obsession is difficult to ignore

Gen Z fashion trends are a blend of old and new fashion aesthetics. This generation is all about comfort blended with bold statements and is rewriting the norms of fashion with the comeback of baguettes and bell-bottoms, or painting the town fresh with baggy and oversized fits. However, the introduction of these trends does not fit in every sitting. Although Gen Z is here to challenge the norms and celebrate their uniqueness, at times they need to realise how to connect with the real world and embrace the rules and boundaries. Here are 5 style lessons every Gen Z boy and girl should understand and embrace.

1. Start with the old money charm

Old money aesthetic is a fashion trend that exudes elegance, quality, grace, minimalism, and luxury. Inspired by the wealthy elite class of the mid-20th century, it mainly includes pleated office pants or shorts with high-neckline sweater vests and waistcoats. Old money charm screams to be chic by not flexing your wealth with your brand names but with minimal yet lavish jewellery which looks demure, cute, and classy, and should be opted more by this generation.

2. Bid goodbye to oversized fits for every occasion

A fashion trend opted for by Gen Z girls and boys is wearing loose-fitted clothing that is one or two larger than their typical size with exaggerated use of silhouette and an extended length. They look super comfortable and casual but are not suitable for every occasion. Oversized hoodies, shirts, t-shirts, and even pants look cool and comfortable during casual meetings, but the new generation is embracing these in formal or office events which looks unprofessional, giving out the indication of not being serious about the role.

3. All about the “Office Siren” movement

The office siren movement is a fashion trend that got popular on TikTok and was soon opted by Gen Z incorporating style with a sensual twist at your workplace. For the fashion industry, it can be a way of exuding your style sense, however, in other sectors, this aesthetics can go off limits. This trend includes tight-fitting pencil skirts with oversized tailored blazers, miniskirts, and stilettos which attract the attention of everybody around you. However, office culture should be embraced with a formal aesthetic including office skirts, office pants, shirts, blazers, and others.

4. Can you even fit something in it?

The rise of the baguette trend which has made an ultimate comeback from the 90s is again taking the fashion world by storm. Coming in different colours and shapes, the size of the baguette remains the same with almost no use. These baguettes can look great for party nights with minimal things inside, but cannot be used for long trips and occasions that require big handbags to fit an adequate amount of necessities.

5. Baggy jeans do not come with a formal touch

Baggy jeans and oversized cargo pants have taken over the fashion world. However, baggy jeans symbolise self-expression and freedom showcasing that there is no pressure to adhere to societal norms and beauty standards and to be carefree everywhere. However, this policy is not applied in formal settings where these pants hold an expression of lack of sincerity as fit and overall appeal with a formal touch matters in many companies and can at times backfire.
