Use cushions to decorate your home like an interior designer

Want to learn how to decorate your home like a pro? Try using cushions. Today, I will share some tips to remember when styling and arranging cushions. They are the easiest, simplest and most affordable way to liven up your home. They not only add warmth to your house but are also great accent pieces for your bed, couch or sofa. They can instantly transform the look of your space.

Colour flexibility

The best thing about styling cushions is that the inserts or fillers only need to be bought once and you can play around with the covers. The whole colour scheme of your home can be changed by just changing the cushion covers. Have some in plain shades matching the colour scheme of your home, and add some prints and designs to achieve your desired style. This makes the whole look very professional.

Texture play

The covers should be of different textures. You can experiment with cotton, silk, artificial leather or velvet. By doing this, you add dynamism to a regular sofa or bed. You can use any kind of fabric and design. Go with the season, for example, a linen sofa can be decorated with cotton and silk cushions in summer and velvet and faux fur in winter.

Size matters

Bring in different shapes and sizes, not just the standard 18×18 inch cushions which make the sofa or couch very flat. Add larger cushions behind these and lumbered (rectangular, loggish shape) smaller cushions in front of it. This adds layers to the sofa, couch or bed and gives it a stylish look.

Placing them right

The thumb rule while placing your cushions is to place them in sets of three, all different sizes, different textures and different designs (example: plain, stripes and printed).

Most importantly your space should be such that you’re happy to see it every day and not bored with it. I hope this helps you spruce up your home to reflect your personality and give it the character you desire.
